Intuition is such a loaded word. Frequently associated with women – as some magical gift of attunement only women have been bestowed or else known as a sixth sense that you have to be sensitive enough to pick up on. We always hear, “mother’s intuition” or “women’s intuition” as though fathers and men generally lack this “skill.”
Intuition is commonly perceived as the mind setting up a practical skill that can be reduced to answering practical questions. Is this the right thing to do? In fact, thinking of it as a skill insinuates that it can be learned or practiced. You’re already approaching it as if it is a mental skill instead of a mystical attribute, and are therefore alienating yourself from own intuitive nature.
But actually, intuition is not some elusive gift that only the fortunate or female get to experience- its an integral part of the universal human experience. It’s just as inherent as our other senses like touch, smell and hearing.
It does not roar –it whispers.
And it’s not our sixth sense- it’s our first.
We often overlook its wisdom because we don’t always want to feel it. Despite all else, intuition is always there, lingering, and waiting for us to simply tune in.
Granted, modern life has a way of putting us out of touch with what’s going on inside which may lead us to believe that intuition must be sought or attained, but, if you are one of those people for whom intuition sounds like magic, maybe you just need to pay greater attention.
The definition itself is “the ability to understand something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning.” You just know. It acts as your interior labyrinth to truth. Intuition is coded to get you into a balanced state. These triggers in your gut are wise directions as to why you’re out of balance, or perhaps how to fix these imbalances.
This sense of knowing can be powerful instruction if allowed to guide our lives but it’s important to note that the way it shows up won’t necessarily be a lightbulb moment. It generally won’t show up in some dramatic or notable way, rather, it shows up in subtle, gentle nudges and is, in other words, easy to ignore.
The challenge today is understanding how your intuition guides you. Although we are all governed by the laws of nature-- the core to our well-being-- we each experience this sense of intuition in a unique, personalized way. Find that voice of intuitive nature, listen to him/her, and allow that energy to transcend into your being.
